A nice day that turns into a rant

Well my bag has been found and most of my stuff recovered. But as I suspected (and is to be expected) money, credit cards and phone are gone. They also took my Spanish ID, student card and various business cards I had gathered over time; but they were kind enough to leave the health cards behind. Al least they want me to go to hospital if I need to.

It's funny how something like this can rock you a little. Getting my bag stolen only fuelled my homesickness, and made me question why I was here at all. Let's not mention my PMSing big time, even Sheldon remarked on the fact that there's a pattern forming. I have a little "freak out" every month...

The lack of my "good phone" means I can't take photos of random things to post on my blog now. I found 5 worms on my way into town today. Why the hell they felt the need to pass from the soft moist grass to the cold wet concrete I have no idea. But I couldn't take a picture, and it made me quite disappointed. Worms on concrete are obviously something photographing....

I became a member of the Library today. There, as well as in application forms for jobs, they have a section for "equal opportunities". Meaning, they take your details such as your age, where you live and a contact number and email -which is fair enough- but then, they ask for your ethnic group. Now, don't get me wrong, but white people have much less to choose from. There were all types of dark skinned: African, Caribbean, Indian... and all the mixes in between. We had mixed races, but only for skin colour. Then, for white we had: British, Irish, other White ethnicity, Mixed, and I think there was another. Now, what do I choose? I'm not British, I am half British. I am white, but also a mix of Spanish and British. So...? What do I choose? I just chose "other white ethnicity", because it was easier. Have any of you come across this? Also, in the application forms they ask for your religion and sexual inclination. So you have Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, a couple others, then No religion. Well? You've gone through all the religions, why not go through Atheist, Agnostic, maybe Humanist, Naturalist.... We could also write an essay: "it's not that I don't believe in God, I was baptised when I was young, but I refused to take the first communion solely for the presents. Now that I am an adult, I can't say God exists or doesn't... as I can't prove neither. But I WOULD like to believe there is something else beyond this life, even if common sense says 'this is it'. Not necessarily a God, but -let's say- an energy of sorts... Like Men In Black, or The Matrix, or any other film that play with free will and belief." Should we also write all that down in an application form?

And the sex preferences? Heterosexual, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, prefer not to say. To begin with, why should there be separate boxes for homosexual men and women? And why on earth should that have to count to equal rights? Surely that, as well as religion (although I might be mistaken), will not interfere in a person's performance in their workplace? It will be down to the specific person, independently from their sexual orientation or religion.

Maybe I'm reading into it too much.
